Regenerate joint cartilage and reduce or eliminate arthritis pain

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis.  Osteoarthritis (OA) affects over 21 million Americans and is kneeusually seen in the hips, knees, feet, low-back and hands.

In the early stages OA may start as stiffness or slight limit in range of motion.  As it progresses, pain and swelling set in.

Overuse of the joint is typically what causes osteoarthritis. Repetitive use of the joint contributes to the deterioration of the joint cartilage. As the cartilage dwindles, the ends of the joint bones thicken and move closer together. Bone spurs (called osteophytes) and nodes often form as the condition worsens further reducing mobility and increasing pain and stiffness.

Retaining and regenerating bone cartilage is paramount to addressing osteoarthritis. A published study done in 2007 suggested that use of antioxidants and vitamins that included vitamin C and vitamin E may reduce the risk of bone marrow lesions, benefit cartilage health, and reduce the chances of OA. Additionally, supplementing with omega 3 fish oils, glucosamine, vitamin D3, calcium, magnesium and Pycnogenol® has also been shown to improve or ward-off OA.

Glucosatrin® Bone and Joint Health is a unique glucosamine joint product. It contains glucosamine HCI, vitamin C, vitamin D3, oleanolic acid, Chinese skullcap, plus other synergistic nutrients and herbs. It does not contain chondroitin due to the potential negative side effects that product possesses (which includes hair loss, nausea, diarrhea and heart palpitations). Chondroitin has also been associated with compromised prostate health in men. Glucosatrin® promotes the retention and normal regeneration of bone cartilage with known safe and effective ingredients.

double blind clinical study published in 2007 showed that after two months of use Pycnogenol® improved joint function by 52%, reduce pain by 43% and lessen stiffness by 35%. Isotonix OPC-3®® is the only form of isotonic Pycnogenol® in the world. Drinking this amazing product allows up to 95% of the benefits of Pycnogenol® plus the other ingredients (grape seed, red wine, bilberry and citrus extracts) to be quickly absorbed and put to work in the blood stream. Using Isotonix OPC-3® is an effective way of improving cellular function while reducing inflammation and pain.

Having trouble building bone? This supplement may be what you need

Men and women both produce estrogen and testosterone. These hormones are obviously at different levels and serve multiple functions. Bone loss in men and women can be significantly reduced when hormone, mineral and nutrient levels are adequate.

Supplementing with only calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D3 is not always enough to adequately maintain bone if estrogen levels are too low. Reducing bone loss is one of the roles that estrogen plays in both men and women.

When our bodies have adequate minerals and nutrients, estrogen assists in maintaining bone by inhibiting cells called osteoclasts. Osteoclasts are cells which remove bone (while osteoblasts build bone). Our bodies will put osteoclasts to work removing bone if calcium levels drop too low. Calcium is critical for muscle contractions (like the heart) so losing bone is an acceptable alternative to muscle failure. Therefore having adequate levels of estrogen will support bone maintenance. That is why osteoporosis is related to lower hormone levels.

Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring plant compounds similar in structure to estradiol.  Estradiol is the predominate hormone in the group of steroid compounds which comprise estrogens. Some phytoestrogens, like genistein (which is the primary isoflavonoid in soy) mimic the role of estrogen. Many people who have reduced levels of estrogen supplement with genistein in an effort to increase estrogen and reduce bone loss. However, because it is soy-based, some people are unable to take genistein due to allergies or a desire to avoid soy products.

Fortunately Bonistein® is a non-soy substitute which is 95% genistein. Bonistein® is non-GMO, completely allergen-free and functions as well, if not better, than soy-based genistein.

Prime™ Balance Bone Formula is a delicious, lemon flavored, drinkable supplement containing Bonistein® in addition to calcium, magnesium,Vitamin D3 and other nutrients which support bone formation. For men and women with lower amounts of estrogen, Prime Balance™ Bone Formula with Bonistein® may be the missing link you’ve been in need of to develop and maintain strong bones.

The Power of Isotonic Formulas Compared to Tablets

In 2009 a group of researchers in Italy conducted a study to see if an isotonic formula of a known highly effective Tablets vs liquidsantioxidant behaved differently on the body compared to the same antioxidant in tablet form.

Isotonix OPC-3® is a powdered antioxidant blend that when mixed with the appropriate amount of water becomes “isotonic“.  Isotonic means “same concentration” and is an ideal ratio between solid and liquids that our bodies convert what we ingest into before it can pass into the small intestine.

The four hour test compared Isotonix OPC-3® in a tablet form to Isotonix OPC-3® in its standard isotonic form.  The amount of water that was consumed with the tablet was equal to the amount of water used in the isotonic version.

Results of the test were startling. Levels of free radicals were measured in the blood plasma of test subjects.  The isotonic OPC-3® reduced free radicals six times more in just 10 minutes compared to the tablet version. The tablet form did eventually reduce free radicals substantially as well, but seriously lagged behind the isotonic form thorough out the four hour test .

Researchers concluded that “the findings demonstrate that the flavonoid mixture provided in isotonic OPC-3® is significantly more bio-available in humans, in terms of antioxidant activity than an equivalent mixture in tablet form.”  Overall the isotonic OPC-3® formulation resulted in a stronger antioxidative effect than an equivalent tablet form.

The results of this test highlight the importance of leveraging the advantage of isotonic formulas for established nutritional supplements like: Isotonix® Coenzyme Q10, Isotonix® Resveratrol, ORAC formulas, Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2, Isotonix® Calcium Plus, B Complex, Vitamin C, Acai, Probiotics, Isotonix® OPC-3 Beauty Blend, Multivitamins, Isotonix® Prenatal Multivitamin, Children’s vitamins, Digestive Enzymes, L-Tryptophan, Blood SugarVision formulas, Anti-aging and Joint Health Formulas. Reducing the amount of work the body needs to do in order to receive the nutritional benefits of these products provides significant “bottom line” results.

Check the Chart for the Amounts of Vitamin D that can Help Prevent Disease

woman-with-chart3Have you ever wondered exactly what a vitamin is? A vitamin is an organic compound which is needed by an organism for it’s life, growth, or metabolism and must be acquired via food or environmental sources.

Vitamin D is a very unique vitamin because it can be derived from food and sunlight. There is only one natural form of Vitamin D which is D3. However this naturally occurring form has three different names:

  • Cholecalciferol – the form of D3 produced when sunlight lingers on bare skin and also available in supplement form.
  • Calcidiol – a hormone precursor created in the blood from cholecalciferol. Vitamin D tests check calcidiol levels in the blood.
  • Calcitriol– a hormone created in the kidneys from calcidiol and cholecalciferol with significant cancer-fighting abilities.

Many people who have had their Vitamin D levels tested are then written prescriptions for Vitamin D2.  Vitamin D2 is called ergocalciferol or calciferol. Vitamin D2 is an inactive form created from fungus and, unlike D3,  is not naturally occurring to the human body. The reduced bioavailability of Vitamin D2 makes it much more difficult for the human body to utilize.

Adequate amounts of Vitamin D3 have been shown to dramatically reduce serious health risks.  The following chart provided by GrassRootsHealth.org shows specific correlations between measured levels of Vitamin D3 and deduced incidents of disease and cancer including:

Do you have Serotonin Deficiency Syndrome?

If you’ve wondered whether an emotional behavior may be rooted more in chemistry than physiology, you may be right.  Serotonin has a powerful effect on our feelings and physical behavior. When serotonin levels are adequate we feel safe, happy, content, satiated, and have great impulse control.  Serotonin deficiency syndrome is when levels are low enough to cause or exacerbate the following:

These behaviors and emotional states are not necessarily produced by a physical dysfunction in the brain. Instead, it may be based on a biochemical condition that can be traced back to the brain’s serotonin neural circuits which are hampered due to inadequate amounts of serotonin in the nerve pathways. A serotonin precursor called l-tryptophan (or tryptophan) can restore these biochemical transmissions to the serotonin neural receptors. L-Tryptophan supplementation is a safe and natural way of increasing low serotonin levels.

Allergies, Psoriasis and Cancer Share a Common Link

An interesting connection has been discovered between psoriasis, eczema, Hodgkin’s disease and lymphoid cancer. allergies The connection is a type of white blood cell called a mast cell.

Mast cells are part of our immune system and jump into action when an allergic reaction occurs.  An irritant or foreign substance will trigger the release of antibodies, which attach themselves to mast cells.  When the irritant comes into contact with the antibody the mast cell erupts, releasing proteins and histamine that, in turn, cause swelling, itching, and/or congestion.

People with high inflammatory symptoms, like those found in psoriasis, eczema, and lymphoid cancers have high levels of mast cells and another immune system protein called CD30. CD30 is a protein found in T-lymphocyte white blood cells.  A study done by the Karolinska Institute discovered that CD30 can stimulate mast cell production in healthy skin cells.  So the presence of CD30 may trigger an inflammatory mast cell response on its own.

Another elevated protein found in psoriasis and many cancer sufferers is known as C-reactive protein.  C-reactive proteins indicate general levels of inflammation in the body.  Infections and many types of long term disease, including heart disease, also generate lots of C-reactive proteins.

Incomplete protein digestion may contribute to the cycle of irritants entering the bloodstream, which in-turn can set the stage for mast cell production, elevated CD30, C-reactive proteins and other inflammatory responses.

Some natural approaches to dealing with this vicious cycle is reducing processed foods and increasing digestive enzymes, vitamin D, vitamin A, zinc, Omega-3 fish oils, aloe vera, and glutathione precursors.  Moderate amounts of sunshine are also advised.

Psoriasis drug linked to a deadly brain infection

Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis and approximately 6.5 million people suffer with it. Psoriasis ismale-doc-looking-at-brain-s considered by many to be incurable. However, due to the dysfunctional aspects of the immune system which are present in this condition, that conclusion is debatable.

Raptiva is a drug that is sometimes prescribed for moderate to severe cases of psoriasis.  Raptiva is typically injected once a week and works by suppressing the normal inflammatory response triggered by the immune system.  T-cells, which are critical in fighting off infections in our bodies, are specifically suppressed by this drug.  The result is fewer psoriasis symptoms but it comes at the cost of lowering the entire body’s immune response.

A common, and usually benign, virus present in most people’s central nervous system is called Polyomarvirus JC. This virus is considered harmless except in cases of compromised immunity. Conditions like cancer, AIDS, chronic corticosteroid or other immunosuppressive therapies can activate this virus.  Once activated, this virus is called Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML). Eighty percent of victims diagnosed with PML die within six months. Survivors often suffer severe neurological disabilities.

The FDA has confirmed three deaths (with a fourth being investigated) due to PML brought on by the use of Raptiva. Consequently the FDA has issued a warning for users of this drug to contact their physician and discuss new treatment options.

Recent studies on oxidative stress and psoriasis are very promising. Clearly, using effective antioxidant therapy to increase glutathione is a very safe approach that addresses an underlying cause of this condition.

I find it tragic that in the attempt to alleviate painful symptoms, people are often shortening their lives or, as in this news article, losing life. Correcting oxidative stress would be a good place to start. The best bio-available isotonic supplements that I believe would positively impact psoriasis are listed below.

You'll be amazed at what Vitamin K can do!

Vitamin K is beginning to emerge as a “must have” vitamin due to it’s outstanding benefits.

There are two primary forms of vitamin K called K1 and K2.  It is important to distinguish between these two because many reports that have been published on vitamin K are actually discussing vitamin K1.

K1 is found in green, leafy vegetables and is also called phylloquinone. Vitamin K2, on the other hand, is found in dairy products, eggs and organ meats.  Vitamin K2 is also known as menaquinone.

Menaquinone (vitamin K2) is produced by intestinal flora and the use of antibiotics will destroy it.  So if you have used antibiotics, you probably need K2.

K2 is impressing the nutritional world by showing results in dealing with:

Vitamin D – you probably need more of the "sunshine vitamin"

The future’s so bright for this super nutrient, it really is going to need shades! Formerly, it seemed like we only heard warnings about too much sun exposure. So we heeded recommendations to use sunscreen to protect us from damage to our skin which could make us look older or give us skin cancer.

Now doctors are discovering that the majority of sun6adults and children are not getting enough vitamin D and it is contributing to poor health, so they are recommending supplementing with this vitamin for good reason. Lack of vitamin D has been linked to a wide variety of illness and disease, including:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer
  • High blood pressure
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Tuberculosis
  • Low back pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Birth defects
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Seasonal affective disorder
  • Periodontal disease

Vitamin D also encourages muscle development. Recent studies done at the University of Manchester have determined that young girls (12-14 years) who were supplemented with vitamin D demonstrated more muscular strength and explosive power.

When selecting a vitamin D supplement bear in mind that D3 is superior to D2 due to it’s bioavailability.  The best quality vitamin D supplement that I know of is Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2.  Isotonix® D includes a synergistic vitamin known as K2 which, in additional to bone health, promotes vascular integrity. Because this product is an isotonic formula, up to 95% of the nutrients are absorbed and enter into the blood stream just minutes after drinking it.

Among other things, Vitamin D3 significantly improves calcium absorption. Vitamin K2 supports the transfer of calcium into bone versus into arteries. Consequently, Vitamin D3 should ideally always be taken with Vitamin K2.

The Vitamin D Council recommends 5000 IU’s of Vitamin D3 daily. Isotonix Vitamin D3 with K2 contains 5000 IU’s of Vitamin D3 along with 45 mcg’s of K2 per dose.

Getting More Glutathione and Antioxidant Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis

The elusive nature of multiple sclerosis has been a source of clinical studies for years.  Researchers at the VU reaching-manUniversity Medical Center in Amsterdam released the results of a study treating 14 multiple sclerosis patients with a combination of antioxidants and other nerve-protecting agents.  The treatment resulted in reductions of relapses by two to three fold, plus decreases in corticosteroid medications.

The study concluded that oxidative stress can be counteracted by naturally occurring antioxidant enzymes which go on to provide protection against future oxidative damage to cells and tissue.

Glutathione is a naturally occuring antioxidant which is produced within the cells of our bodies providing protection against toxins.  Lack of glutathione is seen in virtually every instance of disease, including multiple sclerosis.

Glutathione can only be internally generated, therefore it is important to ingest supplements which will stimulate glutathione production.  Vitamin D3, vitamin K, pycnogenolalpha-lipoic acid, curcumin, resveratrol, B vitamins, and L-tryptophan all stimulate the cellular production of glutathione.
