… and that’s why your vitamins aren’t working!

The human body is comprised of roughly 10 trillion cells. Every cell is basically a highly sophisticated bio-chemical machine. Vitamins are small molecules that the cells need to perform specific functions. Our bodies can’t manufacture these vitamin and mineral molecules. Instead they must be provided via food or supplementation.

There are about 15 different essential vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. Some fat-soluble vitamins (like Vitamin A) can be stored in the body for long periods of time. Others, especially water-soluble vitamins, must be replenished frequently.

So, vitamins and minerals are essential. Our cells depend on them. Then why do so many people who take supplements regularly still feel lousy and continue to struggle with symptoms of poor cellular health?

The likely culprit? Poor absorption. The cells can’t get enough of the active compounds from the type of vitamin being taken.

Seriously, isotonic calcium gets RESULTS

Isotonix Calcium PlusCalcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body with 99% of it stored in the bones and teeth. Beyond skeletal structure calcium impacts multiple systems including the cardiovascular, nervous system, immune response, hormone and enzyme function and healthy cholesterol levels.

44-87% of the U.S. populace are deficient in calcium. Using the steroid Prednisone leaches calcium from the bones, which greatly increases calcium requirements.

So the question is, what form of calcium is best? Frequently, people complain that they have tried supplementing with calcium or other nutrients and noticed no benefit. In the past, I had the same experience. What I found out was that it wasn’t that the compound didn’t work. The problem was that my body could not extract the benefits of the compound due to the form it was delivered in.

That is why isotonic absorption is so significant.

Many calcium supplements are made from calcium found in eggshell or oyster shell, which is difficult for the body to absorb. Other brands use calcium tablets that possess a binding agent called DCP, which does not break down in the body. Just because a brand lists a large amount of calcium on the label does not mean that your body will be able to utilize it.

Isotonix® Calcium Plus delivers results because it is isotonic.

Isotonix® Calcium Plus is a powdered form that, when mixed with the amount of water indicated, becomes isotonic. An isotonic solution is extremely easy for the body to absorb and will begin entering into the blood stream in less than five minutes. This highly efficient and active product will get to the receptor sites in the small intestine unlike many other brands of tablets which have been jokingly referred to as “bedpan bullets“.

Benefits that distinguish Isotonix® Calcium Plus are:

  • It’s isotonic – (is ready to be absorbed by the intestines)
  • It’s very affordable – ($19.50 for a 45 day supply)
  • It’s drinkable – (and tastes good)
  • It’s bioavailable – (delivers highly concentrated and active nutrition)
  • It’s synergistically blended – (contains vitamins D3, C, and B2, magnesium, boron, potassium, & manganese)

Results always speak for themselves. Here are a few comments on Isotonix® Calcium Plus:

By Ann the Marathon Runner and P.T. from Poulsbo, WA on 6/6/2009

I’ve tried various types of daily calcium products. This is far and away the easiest to use and it tastes good too. I’ve found that I really notice a difference in how I feel when I use the product and after just one month. I will buy it every month from now on.

By LK  from Northern NH on 8/4/2009

I really like this product- it is a thousand times better than the calcium “horse pills” that you buy at the store. This powder is easy to take, and you can take just half a dose if you are drinking a lot of milk or use milk products. I would recommend it to any woman.

CoQ10 – Did you know statins drugs BLOCK this Essential Heart Energy Catalyst?

heart powerCoenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vitamin-like substance naturally secreted by liver enzymes in our bodies. CoQ10 initiates cellular energy production. Critical systems (like the heart, brain and liver) rely on this energy to maintain proper functioning. CoQ10 is a biochemical catalyst that supplies vital energy.

The interesting thing about a catalyst is that it initiates an event, but is not consumed nor incorporated into the activity. Consequently, a biochemical catalyst can perform its function repeatably. Over 90% of the cellular energy generated in the human body is produced this way.

The energy that CoQ10 initiates becomes an organic molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is known as the ‘energy currency of life’ because all cellular functions need ATP to store or transport their energy requirements.

Cholesterol is a soft waxy substance that composes over 50% of all cell membranes. Cholesterol is necessary for regulating hormone activity, breaking down fats, building bone, enabling immune response, plus absorbing vital nutrients like vitamin D and calcium. We get cholesterol from food and from enzymes produced by the liver.

Statin drugs lower cholesterol by blocking the production of a natural liver enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme enables cholesterol and CoQ10 production. Statins work by attacking HMG-CoA in the liver, which forces the liver to pull cholesterol requirements from the blood. Dr. Gerald Gau (a cardiologist and cholesterol management expert at Mayo Clinic) states that “When you start a statin, your coenzyme Q10 level in your blood drops by 50 percent.” This may explain why over 72% of U.S. cardiologists polled recommend dietary supplements.

A common side effect for people who use statins is muscle pain and weakness called ‘myalgia‘ or ‘myopathy‘. A double-blind study published in 2007 found that supplementing with coenzyme Q10 for 30 days reduced myopathy by 40%. Beatrice Golomb at the University of California in San Diego also identified memory problems and dementia-like symptoms in patients using statins.

Statins definitely reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels, but they also reduce very healthy and desirable CoQ10 as well. Insufficient levels of CoQ10 may be a contributing factor in the high rates of congestive heart failure among statin drug users. Additional adversaries to cardiovascular health are oxidation and arterial inflammation.

Karl Folkers was a chemist for Merck (a large pharmaceutical supplier of statin medications). Dr. Folkers warned that prescribed statin drugs should include supplemental CoQ10 to prevent unintended damage to the patient.

New video on Vitamin D shows profound impact on Breast Cancer

This newly aired video shows a striking correlation between breast cancer and vitamin D.

A March 2009 article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine explored the dramatic decrease of vitamin D in the overall population from 2001 to 2004. Seventy five percent of adults have insufficient levels of vitamin D. In addition, a significant number of teenagers, young children, and even 40% of infants have been found to be seriously low as well. Inadequate levels of vitamin D have also been measured in 50-80% of pregnant women, even though over 90% of those tested were using a prenatal vitamin.

Supplementation and dietary changes are advised to increase blood serum levels of vitamin D rather than more sun exposure according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

A study of Hawaiian skateboarders (who tended not to use sunscreen) validated this recommendation. Even in this group, 51% had significantly low levels of vitamin D. This is noteworthy considering that just 30 minutes of sunlight on the skin produces approximately 10,000 iu’s of vitamin D in the body.

Healthy adults utilized about 4000 iu’s of vitamin D daily. The Vitamin D Council suggests that supplementing with up to 10,000 iu’s daily of vitamin D3 is very safe for most people.

The bottom line conclusion is: “Current recommendations for vitamin D supplementation are inadequate to address the growing epidemic of vitamin D insufficiency.” – 2009 March, Archive of Internal Medicine

Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2 provides 5000 iu’s of cholecalciferol (a bioavailable form of vitamin D3) plus 45 mcg of vitamin K2 in a drinkable isotonic form.

Regenerate joint cartilage and reduce or eliminate arthritis pain

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis.  Osteoarthritis (OA) affects over 21 million Americans and is kneeusually seen in the hips, knees, feet, low-back and hands.

In the early stages OA may start as stiffness or slight limit in range of motion.  As it progresses, pain and swelling set in.

Overuse of the joint is typically what causes osteoarthritis. Repetitive use of the joint contributes to the deterioration of the joint cartilage. As the cartilage dwindles, the ends of the joint bones thicken and move closer together. Bone spurs (called osteophytes) and nodes often form as the condition worsens further reducing mobility and increasing pain and stiffness.

Retaining and regenerating bone cartilage is paramount to addressing osteoarthritis. A published study done in 2007 suggested that use of antioxidants and vitamins that included vitamin C and vitamin E may reduce the risk of bone marrow lesions, benefit cartilage health, and reduce the chances of OA. Additionally, supplementing with omega 3 fish oils, glucosamine, vitamin D3, calcium, magnesium and Pycnogenol® has also been shown to improve or ward-off OA.

Glucosatrin® Bone and Joint Health is a unique glucosamine joint product. It contains glucosamine HCI, vitamin C, vitamin D3, oleanolic acid, Chinese skullcap, plus other synergistic nutrients and herbs. It does not contain chondroitin due to the potential negative side effects that product possesses (which includes hair loss, nausea, diarrhea and heart palpitations). Chondroitin has also been associated with compromised prostate health in men. Glucosatrin® promotes the retention and normal regeneration of bone cartilage with known safe and effective ingredients.

double blind clinical study published in 2007 showed that after two months of use Pycnogenol® improved joint function by 52%, reduce pain by 43% and lessen stiffness by 35%. Isotonix OPC-3®® is the only form of isotonic Pycnogenol® in the world. Drinking this amazing product allows up to 95% of the benefits of Pycnogenol® plus the other ingredients (grape seed, red wine, bilberry and citrus extracts) to be quickly absorbed and put to work in the blood stream. Using Isotonix OPC-3® is an effective way of improving cellular function while reducing inflammation and pain.

Other drinkable Isotonix® products which could help OA are:
Prime™ Joint Support Formula by Isotonix®
Isotonix® Vitamin C
Isotonix® Calcium Plus
Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2

Other capsule products which would be excellent for quelling arthritis difficulties would be:

Having trouble building bone? This supplement may be what you need

Men and women both produce estrogen and testosterone. These hormones are obviously at different levels and serve multiple functions. Bone loss in men and women can be significantly reduced when hormone, mineral and nutrient levels are adequate.

Supplementing with only calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D3 is not always enough to adequately maintain bone if estrogen levels are too low. Reducing bone loss is one of the roles that estrogen plays in both men and women.

When our bodies have adequate minerals and nutrients, estrogen assists in maintaining bone by inhibiting cells called osteoclasts. Osteoclasts are cells which remove bone (while osteoblasts build bone). Our bodies will put osteoclasts to work removing bone if calcium levels drop too low. Calcium is critical for muscle contractions (like the heart) so losing bone is an acceptable alternative to muscle failure. Therefore having adequate levels of estrogen will support bone maintenance. That is why osteoporosis is related to lower hormone levels.

Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring plant compounds similar in structure to estradiol.  Estradiol is the predominate hormone in the group of steroid compounds which comprise estrogens. Some phytoestrogens, like genistein (which is the primary isoflavonoid in soy) mimic the role of estrogen. Many people who have reduced levels of estrogen supplement with genistein in an effort to increase estrogen and reduce bone loss. However, because it is soy-based, some people are unable to take genistein due to allergies or a desire to avoid soy products.

Fortunately Bonistein® is a non-soy substitute which is 95% genistein. Bonistein® is non-GMO, completely allergen-free and functions as well, if not better, than soy-based genistein.

Prime™ Balance Bone Formula is a delicious, lemon flavored, drinkable supplement containing Bonistein® in addition to calcium, magnesium,Vitamin D3 and other nutrients which support bone formation. For men and women with lower amounts of estrogen, Prime Balance™ Bone Formula with Bonistein® may be the missing link you’ve been in need of to develop and maintain strong bones.

You'll be amazed at what Vitamin K can do!

Vitamin K is beginning to emerge as a “must have” vitamin due to it’s outstanding benefits.

There are two primary forms of vitamin K called K1 and K2.  It is important to distinguish between these two because many reports that have been published on vitamin K are actually discussing vitamin K1.

K1 is found in green, leafy vegetables and is also called phylloquinone. Vitamin K2, on the other hand, is found in dairy products, eggs and organ meats.  Vitamin K2 is also known as menaquinone.

Menaquinone (vitamin K2) is produced by intestinal flora and the use of antibiotics will destroy it.  So if you have used antibiotics, you probably need K2.

K2 is impressing the nutritional world by showing results in dealing with:

Vitamin D – you probably need more of the "sunshine vitamin"

The future’s so bright for this super nutrient, it really is going to need shades! Formerly, it seemed like we only heard warnings about too much sun exposure. So we heeded recommendations to use sunscreen to protect us from damage to our skin which could make us look older or give us skin cancer.

Now doctors are discovering that the majority of sun6adults and children are not getting enough vitamin D and it is contributing to poor health, so they are recommending supplementing with this vitamin for good reason. Lack of vitamin D has been linked to a wide variety of illness and disease, including:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer
  • High blood pressure
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Tuberculosis
  • Low back pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Birth defects
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Seasonal affective disorder
  • Periodontal disease

Vitamin D also encourages muscle development. Recent studies done at the University of Manchester have determined that young girls (12-14 years) who were supplemented with vitamin D demonstrated more muscular strength and explosive power.

When selecting a vitamin D supplement bear in mind that D3 is superior to D2 due to it’s bioavailability.  The best quality vitamin D supplement that I know of is Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2.  Isotonix® D includes a synergistic vitamin known as K2 which, in additional to bone health, promotes vascular integrity. Because this product is an isotonic formula, up to 95% of the nutrients are absorbed and enter into the blood stream just minutes after drinking it.

Among other things, Vitamin D3 significantly improves calcium absorption. Vitamin K2 supports the transfer of calcium into bone versus into arteries. Consequently, Vitamin D3 should ideally always be taken with Vitamin K2.

The Vitamin D Council recommends 5000 IU’s of Vitamin D3 daily. Isotonix Vitamin D3 with K2 contains 5000 IU’s of Vitamin D3 along with 45 mcg’s of K2 per dose.

Is your Vitamin D level high enough? Check out this Vitamin D Disease Prevention Chart.

You Need An Active Form of Vitamin D

If you have poor bone density, your health care provider has probably suggested supplementing with calcium and vitamin D.  The reason is that calcium is only 10-15% absorbed unless it has the benefitrunning-men2 of vitamin D to facilitate it.

The typical form of vitamin D used for most supplements is D2.  Vitamin D2 is classified as inactive.  An inactive form of a vitamin must be metabolized before it can be accessed, which requires considerable metabolic energy.  A metabolically active vitamin can be rapidly utilized by the body and requires very little energy expenditure.

Vitamin D3 is an active form of this essential nutrient.

Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2 is unique in providing vitamin D3 in an isotonic state, which allows it to be 95% absorbed.  It also incorporates isotonic vitamin K2.

K2 is, once again, metabolically active.  Most supplements use the inactive form known as K1.  K1 is not advised for people using statin drugs due to it’s blood-thinning characteristics.  On the other hand, K2 has no such behavior.  In fact, K2 mediates a condition that can occur during calcium supplementation known as the “calcium paradox”.

The calcium paradox occurs when calcium is stored in the arteries instead of bones.  This can create dangerous calcification and compromised cardiovascular health.  K2 acts like an internal guide directing calcium to the bones and away from arteries and veins.

Combining D3 and K2 into in isotonic form is synergistically brilliant!  I know of no better way of absorbing of these two very important vitamins.

Osteoporosis Medications linked to Jaw Bone Disease

jawOne out of 25 users of Fosamax and other bisphosphonate drugs may be at risk of serious jaw bone deterioration. The report was conducted by the Journal of the American Dental Association .

The specific the jaw bone problem which can develop from using these drugs is a disease called “osteonecrosis” or “ONJ”. ONJ is linked to the temporary or permanent loss of blood to bone tissue, which can lead to tissue death and eventually bone collapse. ONJ can occur as a result of a bone injury like fractures or dislocations. Major dental work is another type of trauma which may also cause ONJ.

Many people use medications like Fosamax® or Boniva® to prevent or treat osteoporosis. The list of other possible side effects may also cause one may take pause. They include:

  • Ulceration of the esophagus
  • Pain in the back, arms, legs or belly
  • Bronchitis
  • Vertigo
  • Indigestion and/or vomiting
  • High cholesterol
  • Insomnia

Fosamax and Boniva can facilitate in hardening existing bone not regenerating new bone.

A more natural approach to restoring bone health and enabling the body to form new bone should include:

Prime™ Balance Bone Formula – for postmenopausal women and older men. Helps prevent osteoporosis, support calcium absorption and retention, maintain bone density and support normal mineralization and bone formation with a patented ingredient called Bonistein.

Isotonix® Calcium Plus – an optimal blend of calcium, vitamin D3, magnesium, vitamin C and boron in an efficient isotonic solution that is readily absorbed by the body.

Isotonix OPC-3® – free radical scavenger supports cellular health, 20 times more powerful than vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than vitamin E.  Assists in creating collagen which contributes to calcium bonding with bone.
