Naturally Improve Blood Pressure & Congestive Heart Failure

Results published from a 2010 clinical study in Italy found that using Pycnogenol®, along with CoenzymeQ10, significantly improved blood pressure and cardiovascular performance in participating subjects.

Pycnogenol® is a patented form of French maritime pine bark extract and has been part of hundreds of clinical studies due to its enormous range of health benefits. CoenzymeQ10 (CoQ10) is is a critically important vitamin-like substance, produced within the human body, that is essential for cellular activity.

The 53 subjects had stable congestive heart failure, mild to moderately high blood pressure and 75% were using three or more medications to manage their heart failure. The subjects given 12 weeks of Pycnogenol® and CoQ10 supplementation obtained the following results:

  • Significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure
  • More than three-fold increase in treadmill walking distances
  • Substantial reduction in distal edema (edema of the extremities)
  • Improved heart rates and respiratory rates

In conclusion, researchers found: “The association of Pycnogenol and CoQ10 may offer an important therapeutic option with a very good tolerability that improves heart failure management without side effects.”

Isotonix OPC-3® is a synergistic blend of potent plant-based antioxidants and contains the only isotonic-capable Pycnogenol® on the market. This drinkable isotonic formula delivers up to 95% nutrient absorption within minutes of ingestion.  A separate clinical study conducted on subjects supplemented with Isotonix OPC-3® had significant cardiovascular performance improvements after 8 weeks.

Isotonix® CoQ10 offers similar bioavailability advantages and can even be mixed together with the OPC-3® and drank at the same time.

Tinnitus symptoms can improve with Pycnogenol antioxidant therapy

Tinnitus is the medical term for an aggravating condition where sound is heard that’s produced from within the ear canal rather than from outside of it. Over 44 million Americans suffer with this disorder.

This internal sound is often described as ringing, buzzing, humming, swishing or whistling. The sound may be continuous or intermittent.

While tinnitus is not completely understood, it is frequently correlated to some type of injury to the ear. Common culprits are loud or prolonged noise exposure or ear infections. Meniere’s disease is a more serious condition which has tinnitus symptoms accompanied with extreme vertigo.

Antihistamines or antibiotics often relieve tinnitus or Meniere’s symptoms. However, millions of people have not experienced relief from those treatments.

Several studies using antioxidants have shown promise for tinnitus symptoms:

  • A 2007 study found idiopathic tinnitus significantly improved after 18 weeks of using a mix of oral antioxidants (including Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and beta-carotene).
  • A pilot study observed that tinnitus suffers with low levels of CoQ10 had reduced symptoms after supplementing with CoQ10 for 16 weeks.
  • In 2003 a study of 25 volunteers with Meniere’s found 91% had fewer vertigo episodes & 44% experienced improved hearing after 2 months of antioxidant use.
  • A 2010 study of 92 people with mild to moderate tinnitus noted significant improvement after 4 weeks of consuming 150 mg. of Pycnogenol® daily. Pycnogenol was observed to enhance blood flow to the cochlear. Higher amounts of Pycnogenol produced greater results.

Inadequate amounts of antioxidants can prevent or impede healing. Use of oral antioxidants can improve cellular function and enhance overall health. Antioxidants and nutrients are much easier to absorb if they are in an isotonic state because they don’t require lengthy digestion. Isotonic supplements provide up to 95% of their value in minutes versus the average 10-20% nutritive value which makes it to the bloodstream by the time tablets or capsules are digested.

Isotonix® has the only form of isotonic capable trademarked Pycnogenol® on the market. As an antioxidant Pycnogenol® is 50 times more potent than Vitamin E and 20 times more potent than Vitamin C. Isotonix OPC-3® is a synergistic blend of Pycnogenol®, Grape Seed, Bilberry, and Citrus Bioflavonoids.

All of the Isotonix® products are powders that, when mixed with the appropriate amount of water, become delicious drinkable isotonic solutions.

Some excellent products for improving auditory health and reducing the stress of tinnitus would include:

Try this simple test at home to see if your Antioxidant works

Antioxidants are all the rage because they are critical for good health. Antioxidants strengthen cellular function, fight disease and slow aging by inhibiting oxidizing free radical damage. Demand has manufacturers adding antioxidants to sport drinks, pet food, cosmetics, coffee, you-name-it.

Ads splash around enticements like “live longer”, “feel better”, “fight illness”. Antioxidants really can help achieve all these benefits if they actually work by resisting free radical oxidation.

Antioxidants come in the form of certain vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients. Our bodies also produce natural antioxidants in the form of glutathione and CoQ10 to support cellular health. Inadequate antioxidant levels are found in virtually every type of disease and are primary contributors to aging.

Sorting through hundreds of antioxidant compounds for what will address your needs can be overwhelming and confusing. If you purchase an antioxidant and start using it, how long will it be before you notice a difference? A few weeks or a few months? Do you need more time or a larger dosage? Is your antioxidant even working? Is it adequately blocking cellular oxidation and cleaning up free radicals?

Oxidation occurs when oxygen molecules react to a substance that they encounter. The amount of oxygen present and the type of material encountered affect the result. Often oxidation is visible to the naked eye. Browning fruit and rusting metal are prime examples of oxidation.

Lemon juice is very high in the antioxidant vitamin C. That’s why sliced fruit dipped in lemon juice neutralizes oxygen molecules in the air and slows down the browning of the fruit. Wax on a car acts like an antioxidant by creating a barrier from the oxidizing air, which maintains the luster of the finish.

Our bodies are assaulted by much more than oxygen air molecules. Bacteria, viruses, free radicals, injuries, disease and aging all damage our cells continuously. Inadequate antioxidant levels leave us vulnerable, or worse, in a state of disease. Antioxidants are the internal cavalry fighting for our health.

Use this simple test to verify a base level of activity in your antioxidant.

Combat Migraines with Isotonic Antioxidants

Woman SoldierMigraines plague approximately 30 million people in the United States with 75% of that number consisting of women.

The treatment of migraines has spurred the creation of a myriad of pain management centers, medications, books, diets, procedures and approaches.  Addressing the physiological and/or environmental causes and then determining the appropriate solution can be daunting at best. Fortunately, many people have found relief from migraines by using nutritional antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

Free radicals destroy and damage cells. Our bodies are equipped to handle free radicals to a certain degree, but factors such as illness, toxins, and stress can overwhelm the normal production of cellular antioxidants. This results in an imbalance that can set the stage for migraines. Supporting cellular function and immune response with potent and well-researched antioxidants can not only inhibit migraines, it also contributes to disease resistance and anti-aging.

Using isotonic formulas are a terrific way of ingesting anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Isotonic solutions are the perfect balance of solids to liquids which allows them to pass rapidly from the stomach to the small intestine for maximum absorption.

Some highly effective anti-inflammatories and antioxidants that migraine sufferers are often lacking in are:

  • Magnesium and Calcium
  • B-Complex
  • Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPC’s)
  • Vitamin D
  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
  • L-Tryptophan
  • Omega 3 Fish Oils

Wondering if cholesterol lowering drugs are making you stupid?… Study shows they may be

Old Worried GuyThe Wall Street Journal published the first allegations of cholesterol lowering statin drugs being associated with dementia. In the article, Dr. Orli Etingin (vice chairman of medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center) stated that Lipitor “makes women stupid.”

Dr. Etingin was referring to several of her patients using statins that were unable to focus, recall words and displayed other cognitive deficiencies. According to Dr. Etingin, the impairments vanished when use of the statin drug was discontinued and returned when the statins were reintroduced.

Two British experts in Alzheimers and dementia, Louise Morse and Roger Hitchins, write that the most common causes of memory loss they see in both men and women are due to depression, poor nutrition and statin drug use.

Some doctors have suspected that certain cognitive disruptions are triggered when statin drugs (like Simvastatin) cross the blood brain barrier and interfere with the central nervous system. Another possibility is that because the brain is composed largely of cholesterol, lowering cholesterol could slow thought and memory connections. Statins have also been linked to abnormal tau proteins forming in the brain, as seen in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

A new study may provide even more disturbing evidence as to the impact statins have on cognitive function.

This fascinating study published July 2008 in Glia by Dr. Steven Goldman and Dr. Fraser Sim discovered that statin drugs inhibit a specific type of brain cell.

These specialized brain cells are called glial progenitor cells. Glial progenitor cells function much like stem cells. They spring into action when the brain has experienced some type of distress and transform into any type of cell needed by the brain. These adaptive cells help restore white matter after strokes, infection, trauma, or inflammation brought on by the aging process, or diseases like multiple sclerosis.

Statins negatively impact glial progenitor cells by switching off their adaptive capabilities. After statin exposure the glial progenitor cells permanently became oligodendrocytes cells.

CoQ10 – Did you know statins drugs BLOCK this Essential Heart Energy Catalyst?

heart powerCoenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vitamin-like substance naturally secreted by liver enzymes in our bodies. CoQ10 initiates cellular energy production. Critical systems (like the heart, brain and liver) rely on this energy to maintain proper functioning. CoQ10 is a biochemical catalyst that supplies vital energy.

The interesting thing about a catalyst is that it initiates an event, but is not consumed nor incorporated into the activity. Consequently, a biochemical catalyst can perform its function repeatably. Over 90% of the cellular energy generated in the human body is produced this way.

The energy that CoQ10 initiates becomes an organic molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is known as the ‘energy currency of life’ because all cellular functions need ATP to store or transport their energy requirements.

Cholesterol is a soft waxy substance that composes over 50% of all cell membranes. Cholesterol is necessary for regulating hormone activity, breaking down fats, building bone, enabling immune response, plus absorbing vital nutrients like vitamin D and calcium. We get cholesterol from food and from enzymes produced by the liver.

Statin drugs lower cholesterol by blocking the production of a natural liver enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme enables cholesterol and CoQ10 production. Statins work by attacking HMG-CoA in the liver, which forces the liver to pull cholesterol requirements from the blood. Dr. Gerald Gau (a cardiologist and cholesterol management expert at Mayo Clinic) states that “When you start a statin, your coenzyme Q10 level in your blood drops by 50 percent.” This may explain why over 72% of U.S. cardiologists polled recommend dietary supplements.

A common side effect for people who use statins is muscle pain and weakness called ‘myalgia‘ or ‘myopathy‘. A double-blind study published in 2007 found that supplementing with coenzyme Q10 for 30 days reduced myopathy by 40%. Beatrice Golomb at the University of California in San Diego also identified memory problems and dementia-like symptoms in patients using statins.

Statins definitely reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels, but they also reduce very healthy and desirable CoQ10 as well. Insufficient levels of CoQ10 may be a contributing factor in the high rates of congestive heart failure among statin drug users. Additional adversaries to cardiovascular health are oxidation and arterial inflammation.

Karl Folkers was a chemist for Merck (a large pharmaceutical supplier of statin medications). Dr. Folkers warned that prescribed statin drugs should include supplemental CoQ10 to prevent unintended damage to the patient.

Antioxidants Fight Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is an eye disease that affects over 10 million Americans.  Age-related Macular DegenerationBlue eye (or AMD) is the most common form found in adults over the age of 55. As the “Baby-Boom” generation continues to age the number of people affected by AMD is anticipated to explode. In 1997, Dr. Carl Kupfer, who was then the Director of the National Eye Institute, publicly stated that macular degeneration will soon take on aspects of an epidemic.

Essentially, macular degeneration is caused when part of the retina deteriorates. The retina is the layer of the eye that transmits light signals to the optic nerve and brain. The macula is the center portion of the retina that renders detailed vision and acuity.

Macular degeneration is considered incurable, however several studies show great promise using oral antioxidants in preventing or impeding this terrible disease.

One such study published March 2009 was conducted by the Friedlander laboratory with mice. The study found that even healthy eyes incur cellular oxidative damage from light. Even small increases in oxidative stress went on to cause cellular retinal damage. Orally-administered antioxidants were remarkably effective at stopping the deterioration.

“People have thought before that antioxidants could have benefits for these conditions, but these data demonstrate clear proof of concept for this treatment approach,” says Dr. Michael Dorrell, a research associate in the Friedlander lab.

The Power of Isotonic Formulas Compared to Tablets

In 2009 a group of researchers in Italy conducted a study to see if an isotonic formula of a known highly effective Tablets vs liquidsantioxidant behaved differently on the body compared to the same antioxidant in tablet form.

Isotonix OPC-3® is a powdered antioxidant blend that when mixed with the appropriate amount of water becomes “isotonic“.  Isotonic means “same concentration” and is an ideal ratio between solid and liquids that our bodies convert what we ingest into before it can pass into the small intestine.

The four hour test compared Isotonix OPC-3® in a tablet form to Isotonix OPC-3® in its standard isotonic form.  The amount of water that was consumed with the tablet was equal to the amount of water used in the isotonic version.

Results of the test were startling. Levels of free radicals were measured in the blood plasma of test subjects.  The isotonic OPC-3® reduced free radicals six times more in just 10 minutes compared to the tablet version. The tablet form did eventually reduce free radicals substantially as well, but seriously lagged behind the isotonic form thorough out the four hour test .

Researchers concluded that “the findings demonstrate that the flavonoid mixture provided in isotonic OPC-3® is significantly more bio-available in humans, in terms of antioxidant activity than an equivalent mixture in tablet form.”  Overall the isotonic OPC-3® formulation resulted in a stronger antioxidative effect than an equivalent tablet form.

The results of this test highlight the importance of leveraging the advantage of isotonic formulas for established nutritional supplements like: Isotonix® Coenzyme Q10, Isotonix® Resveratrol, ORAC formulas, Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2, Isotonix® Calcium Plus, B Complex, Vitamin C, Acai, Probiotics, Isotonix® OPC-3 Beauty Blend, Multivitamins, Isotonix® Prenatal Multivitamin, Children’s vitamins, Digestive Enzymes, L-Tryptophan, Blood SugarVision formulas, Anti-aging and Joint Health Formulas. Reducing the amount of work the body needs to do in order to receive the nutritional benefits of these products provides significant “bottom line” results.

Fibromyalgia Benefits from CoQ10 Supplementation

woman sore neckA study completed in December 2008 noted that subjects suffering from fibromyalgia had irregular amounts of CoQ10 in their blood. Specifically, the blood plasma (the liquid component of blood containing blood cells) had double the normal amounts of CoQ10. However, the mononuclear blood cells (which fight infection) contained only 40% of the typical levels of CoQ10.

Coenzyme Q10 counteracts oxidative stress in cells and supports healthy cellular function. The lack of adequate amounts of CoQ10 in the fibromyalgia subjects indicates a defect in the distribution and metabolism of this catalyst enzyme. Mononuclear cells are key components in immune response. Supporting these cells with CoQ10 supplementation is recommended.

There are three high quality CoQ10 products offered through SHOP.COM which address just about any preference:
