Antioxidants Highly Effective in Fighting Oral Diseases

man-with-dentistTwo common periodontal diseases were found to respond favorably to the potent antioxidants found in grape seed. Periodontitis is a serious condition that destroys the soft tissue and bone supporting the teeth.  Thirty to fifty percent of Americans suffer from this disease making it the second most common in the world.

Gingivitas and fusobacterium are types of unhealthy bacteria which can grow in the mouth.  Gingivitis left unchecked can develop in to a very serious disease called Trench Mouth.  Fusobacterium is a pathogen that sometimes presents after contracting strep.  Fusobacterium can develop into a very dangerous condition called Lemierre’s disease.

Gingivitas and fusobacterium thrive in plaque, which is a complex bacteria-laden environment called biofilm.  Biofilm serves as a protective agent for the unhealthy bacteria allowing it to thrive and reproduce.  The biofilm accelerates the inflammatory response, which causes a massive release of free radicals on a cellular level.

A 2008 study conducted by Food Chemistry demonstrated that the powerful antioxidants in grape seed were very beneficial because of their anti-bacterial properties and suppression of the free radical cascade.

Isotonix OPC-3® is a synergistic blend of antioxidants (including grape seed extract) that has been clinically proven to positive improve red and white blood cells mobility and suppress free radicals for a full 72 hours after ingesting.
